NICB partners with The Club to prevent stolen cars

The National Insurance Crime Bureau has partnered with the creator of The Club steering wheel lock to provide discounts to its members who want to purchase the device to protect their vehicles from theft.

According  to NICB President and CEO Joe Wehrle, the partnership between the bureau and Winner International, which invented and patented The Club in 1986, represents the latest growth out of a “long and mutually supportive relationship” between the two companies.

By providing a discounted price for the anti-theft device, the companies hope that that will attempt to hasten the decline in car thefts that has been seen in recent years.

“We welcome this opportunity to provide our members with a pre-packaged discount program that they can offer to their policyholders,” Wehrle said. “In return, Winner International will contribute a portion of each sale to the NICB to help us continue our mission.”

According to the NICB, the bureau holds 93 percent of the private passenger automobile insurance in the U.S. Despite the decline in auto theft, Wehrle said that insurers annually paid out millions of dollars for stolen vehicles that eventually go unrecovered.

If the program can reduce the amount of stolen cars, therefore reducing the number of stolen vehicles that must be covered by auto insurance companies, customers will likely stand to see fewer increases in their average premiums, if not a decline in some cases.
