Burglary pack could help drive down home insurance claims
By Chris King
Home insurance customers in the north-east could be among those receiving a new anti-burglary pack designed to drive down the number of thefts in the area.
Secure Your Home packs include advice on how to beat burglars and DIY vouchers which could be used to improve home security, reports the Jarrow and Hebburn Gazette.
They may help to drive down the number of home insurance claims made.
Inspector Peter Sutton tells the newspaper: “We would ask people to ensure they secure windows and doors while also removing keys from doors. Likewise, we would ask drivers to think twice about leaving valuable items in their vehicles.”
Although, according to inspector Sutton, the number of break-ins in South Tyneside is decreasing, there are still many who are not doing all they can to combat the threat.
Burglary can result in a home insurance claim being made, which could in turn affect the price of future premiums.
Greater Manchester Police last week suggested that keeping windows and doors locked can be a significant help to people trying to beat the burglars.
