Progress to health care an uphill challenge
The Presidents conditions are far from being met. For expanding insurance coverage without raising the deficit and at the same time slowing the rise in medical costs. The Health care bill has to be re written and done by the end of the year to meet Obama’s requirements.
As Republican Waxman of California says today, “We are much closer than we have been to accomplishing the elusive goal of reforming health care”. This was told to reporters during a marathon leadership meeting on the topic.
The biggest controversy democrats have to face involves the government to sell insurance in direct competition with the private industry.
Once again, Obama said, “I will not sign a plan that adds one dime to our deficits — either now or in the future. Period. And to prove that I’m serious, there will be a provision in this plan that requires us to come forward with more spending cuts if the savings we promised don’t materialize.”
So it looks like Washington has a couple of months to figure out where all the money is going to come from to cover the bill.
